Anyone fished a fore and aft dry for midges on the Metolius? Great fly for the San Juan quality waters in New Mexico. Simple tie with (usually) a black thread body and grizzly hackle tied at the back and front. We tie them from size 12 to 20. Bigger ones work great when the midges are clustered. Clusters can be the size of a silver dollar.
GREAT TOTAL Collection of midge patterns John -thanks!! Some these should work really well on Central Oregon Streams & Lakes!!
Do you use floatant when fishing the IOBO? If so, what kind?
Hi John
Thanks for leaving a Comment.
I use Frog’s Fanny floatant. It comes with a brush to which I find works very well with CDC.
John
I tied the Zebra Midge with a white seed bead head, black thread body and silver wire rib. They worked very well on the Green River below Flaming Gorge.
Zebra midges work great, also higas sos; that little bit of red with a black body and silver wire works every time, red rib works well too in that spot below flaming gorge
Zebra midge works really well there, try the higas sos, I tie a few different versions of that and that little bit of red works really well in that area you’re fishing. Try red wire on your zebra midges or two tone midges also (half red and half olive thread body with wire rib and beadhead
