Here is the fly pattern sheet for Engle’s Micro Soft-Hackle Fly.
Materials
Hook: | Daiichi 1100 #18 – 22 |
Thread: | Black 8/0 to 16/0 |
Body: | Olive rabbit underfur |
Rib: | Fine gold wire (optional) |
Hackle: | Partridge aftershaft feather |
Directions
- Begin thread on hook and secure rib at the 25% mark. Continue to wrap thread to hook barb.
- Apply dubbing to thread and wrap forward to 25% mark.
- Wind rib forward and tie off. Leave enough room for a large black head.
- Tie on aftershaft and carefully wrap forward. Fair warning – this feather is very delicate and is difficult to wrap.
The aftershaft feather is located under the “normal” feather from the back of a Partridge. Here are a couple close-up images of the feather.
