Engle's Micro Soft-Hackle | www.johnkreft.com

Materials

Hook:Daiichi 1100 #18 – 22
Thread:Black 8/0 to 16/0
Body:Olive rabbit underfur
Rib:Fine gold wire (optional)
Hackle:Partridge aftershaft feather

Directions

  1. Begin thread on hook and secure rib at the 25% mark. Continue to wrap thread to hook barb.
  2. Apply dubbing to thread and wrap forward to 25% mark.
  3. Wind rib forward and tie off. Leave enough room for a large black head.
  4. Tie on aftershaft and carefully wrap forward. Fair warning – this feather is very delicate and is difficult to wrap.

The aftershaft feather is located under the “normal” feather from the back of a Partridge. Here are a couple close-up images of the feather.
