St Joe Special TBT

This week’s Throw Back Thursday Fly is the St Joe Favorite TBT. (I mislabeled the title – should be St Joe Favorite!)

I first found this fly at the Idaho Fly Fishing Company in Avery, ID during our fly fishing trip to the St. Joe River in Idaho. I always enjoy going into local fly shops to see the flies which work for their waters.

I remembered seeing the St Joe Favorite in an older Northwest Fly Fishing magazine article (May/June 2010) and it included the fly pattern. I’ve since added the fly pattern sheet and hope to have a new Attractor Fly Pattern page.

You can see the St Joe Special HERE.

Unfortunately, I don’t have the history of this fly. If you know something, please provide a Comment below.

Enjoy…go fish!

  • Blue Wing Olives

It’s the middle of winter and the major hatch on the river these days are Blue Wing Olives.  I get confused what to call these bugs…Blue Wing Olives…Blue Wings… BWOs…Baetis … I’m no expert, but I think they are all the same insect. Or close enough for a fly fisher. To be sure, I consulted one…
