I finished a customer order last week and am now tying more flies for Patagonia and my Patagonia fly box. I was able to fill in the remaining holes with Fat Albert and Card’s Cicada flies.

We’ve been fortunate to fish Patagonia the last few years and are excited for our upcoming trip in January. While our guides provide flies, I always enjoy catching fish with flies I tie. I usually return home with an empty fly box because after our last lodge dinner, I pull out my flies and offer them to the guides. They are surprised by this, but it doesn’t take long before my flies are separated into different piles for each guide. It makes me feel satisfied my flies are still in Patagonia fooling fish!
These are basic flies that have worked in previous years and the trout seem to like them. This Brown Trout took a Card’s Cicada in Chile at Lago Pascua last year.

This video is from my RiverKeeper Flies YouTube channel where I demonstrate how I tied the fly. If I haven’t tied a fly is a while and I have a video, I take a quick peek to refresh my memory about proportions and other tips. I tied the Card’s Cicada in sizes 10 and 8.
I finished a dozen size 10 black Fat Albert flies to go along with the size 8’s. Here is a video for that fly as well.
The next fly I plan to tie are several Swisher’s PMX Royal. It was the fly I caught a 24 inch Rainbow on the Rio Codihue last year.

This was one of Danny’s flies, but I hope to give my fly a chance and see if this trout is still in the same spot!
And for my regular readers, remember those size 24 hooks I mentioned last week? You’ll recognize the picture with the size 8/0 hook and a size 24 hook in the hook eye.

I pulled out half a dozen of the size 24 hooks and tied a few GS Midges. Here they are sitting on a dime.

A customer likes these tied on size 26 hooks, but I’m having difficulty finding those hooks and decided to tie a size 26 on the 24 hook. Notice the shorter proportions to achieve this.
I better get back to the vise…I have more flies to tie!
Enjoy…go fish!
