It’s a great time of year to stop and appreciate the view as you’re waiting for a hatch to begin and fish rise.

In my experience, fall provides a few days when you’ll see fish eating everything in sight to put on winter fat. The fish know winter isn’t far away.

If you are lucky enough to be fishing on one of those days, it can be magical!

What flies work?

Check out a couple of posts about the flies I use this time of year – Fall FishingOctober Fly Box and A Fall Fly Box

It’s the time of year when the bigger fish match the foliage.

Be sure to take some time and celebrate the season before all the leaves are gone.

This week’s Throw Back Thursday Fly is the Black Brahan Atlantic Salmon Fly. This is one of five Atlantic Salmon flies my friend Jim Fisher purchased during his 1986 fishing trip on the river Spey in Strathspey, Scotland. He was successful landing a 32 inch, 12 pound Atlantic Salmon on a Munro Killer using a Winston 9′…

  1. Absolutely spectacular! ? We are so lucky to fish these waters. And with your willingness to share your knowledge, I catch one of these beauties now and then. ? Speaking of sharing, the copper cup looks refreshing.
