We’ve been home a couple of weeks from our recent fly fishing road trip. As you can tell from the image below, it didn’t end as we hoped. Turns out a fuel injector in our van needed to be replaced in Kemmerer, WY. It’s a longer story that I won’t bore you with, but we returned home safe and sound a week later.
We were just below Fontenelle dam fishing the Green River, WY and decided to explore a spot downstream when our problem started. That’s when “plan B” began.
Here are a couple images of the Green River as the sun began to set (before the van problem started).
And a Brown trout I was finally able to hook using a Purple Haze.
I had several rise to my fly, but didn’t hook up for some reason.
This is a Western Tanager I found in the brush along the river finding an insect to munch on.
After returning home, I was able to catch up on my fly tying orders and thought I’d share a couple images of the flies I tied for a good customer.
Here is a dozen Pheasant Tail Soft Hackle flies in size 14.
I enjoy tying this classic soft hackle fly. There’s just something about the combination of natural materials that makes a beautiful fly.
This is a dozen size 18 Higa’s SOS.
I’ve used this fly during the winter months when dry fly hatches are sparse. It’s a great fly!
