This week’s odds n ends post has a variety of items you may be interested in. Be sure to read all the way through.

First off, there are definitely signs of Fall everywhere I look.

From leaves beginning to change on the river…

…to something we usually don’t see …bucks in our backyard, except when Fall begins.

Even the first kokanee salmon appeared in the river this week.

Fall fishing is one of my favorite times of the year. The fish are looking up and eating everything in sight because they know winter is not far away. I’ve seen Cascade Stones, two different sizes of olive stones, October Caddis, a variety of caddis, and mayflies galore.

And the fish see them too. The rainbows are beautiful…and hungry.

So I plan to fish hard through the end of October, when the fishing changes as winter approaches.

I’d like to highlight the SEARCH function on RiverKeeper Flies. This is a great tool that allows you to search my website. I just moved it to the top of the right-hand column so it’s easier to find. For example, I’ve written several posts about leaders – Make Your Fly Fishing Leader Last Longer and Fly Fishing Leaders are a couple of them. You may not remember what the posts were called, so just type in “leader” in the SEARCH box and instantly the posts with the word leader are presented for you to click an read. I use it all the time.

Lastly, here are a couple of items to add to your calendar.

  • Pacific Northwest Fly Tyers Rendezvous – Saturday, November 11, 2017 at the Jackson Armory, Portland, OR, between Colwood Golf Course and the Portland International Airport. I plan to be tying all day, so if you will be in the Portland-Metro area, be sure to stop by and say hi.
  • NW Fly Tying & Fly Fishing Expo – Friday & Saturday, March 9 & 10, 2018. Updates can be found at the NWExpo.com website or the active Facebook page (click the photo below and you’ll go the the Facebook page).

Enjoy…go fish!
