This week’s Throwback Thursday post is the Ross Reel No. 2.
I bought this reel from a friend a few years ago. It was attached to a Winston – Tom Morgan Favorite 8 foot 4 weight fly rod.
I don’t fish it often, but did pull it out when I recently fished Soda Butte Creek in Yellowstone National Park. It is a sweet rod and I like the vintage fly reel that’s now around 35 years old.
The following quote is from the Ross Reels USA website:
“The Original ‘’R’’ Reel Series was produced in both Etna, California and Montrose, Colorado throughout the 1980’s. The ‘’R’’ Series came in four sizes; #1, #2, #3, #3.5 for line weights 3 thru 10.”
The earliest models are marked as made in Etna, CA, so I’m guessing this fly reel was produced in Montrose.
Enjoy…go fish, stay safe!
Your taste in equipment is impeccable! Well done. And Montana this year sounds wonderful.
Thanks Tom
