Boise Bound

January is the beginning of serious fly tying. Tonight is session one of the Central Oregon Flyfishing Winter Fly Tying class. It’s the first of 12 straight weeks of classes for our COF members. I can’t believe this is my 7th year leading these classes. But that’s not the only fly tying activity on my schedule. I’ll be Boise bound as I travel later this week to the Western Idaho Fly Fishing Expo.

This is a picture from 2015 where I helped teach a new fly tyer a tip or two. I wonder if she continued tying flies and if I’ll see her this week?

I’ve written about the Expo in past years. I had to skip last year because of our snow, but you can read about 2016 HERE.

Tonight I’ll be teaching the first COF Winter Fly Tying class. I’ve chosen my RiverKeeper Stonefly Nymph and the Double Bead Peacock Stone Nymph.

It probably will surprise my students because many think I’m only a dry fly fisherman. While I prefer dry flies, I have been known to nymph when no dry fly action can be seen.

In fact, here is the first fish from 2018…the Mountain Whitefish.

I had a couple other fish hooked, but this was the only one to my net.

So if you live in the greater Boise area, please go to the Expo and stop by my tying table to say “hi”.
