This week’s Throw Back Thursday Fly is the Royal Stimulator TBT.
The Royal Stimulator is a fly I tied recently for a customer and thought is would be a good candidate for a TBT post. checked Randall Kaufmann’s Tying Dry Flies (1991) to see if the fly was listed. The fly pattern at the end of the book shows 1986 as the date of this Stimulator variation.
Stimulators imitate a stonefly, hopper, or caddisflies.
You might consider tying a few of your own. Here is a link to the fly pattern sheet – https://www.johnkreft.com/royal-stimulator/
Here is another new fly tying video from my RiverKeeper Flies YouTube channel:
Enjoy…go fish, stay safe!
Top notch job on the stimulator John. I remember years ago teaching fly-tying classes and would intentionally cut my thread to show them you could still save the fly even after that mistake. I’ve been tying since 1969 and once in a while I still cut or break my thread. It’s just a product of the art.
Tight lines and true knots!
