Our last two days at Casa de Campo found us fly fishing the Rio Alumine with SET Fly Fishing. This is a float section where SET provides a wonderful camping experience for their guests.

But first, I wanted to share links to the last couple of posts for my subscribers. It turns out my Mailchimp automated emails didn’t go out to you for some reason…and I have no idea why. I’m still in the process of troubleshooting, but here are the links if you’d like to backcast and catch up:
Floating the Rio Alumine was a wonderful way to end our week at Casa de Campo. We were a little tired from walking and wading the rivers and the temperatures had increased quite a bit. In fact, the first day on the river was well into the 90s. We were hoping to find a few green willow worms dropping from trees and willing trout eating our flies.
Hooked up shortly after launching on a dropper fly.

The Rio Alumine was a great river to float, offering eager trout in a scenic canyon.

These weren’t’ the biggest trout in the world, but they were eager, hard-fighting Rainbows. Each of us were able to hook and land several trout.
Several trout took the Perdigon dropper attached to our dry fly.

The trout were willing in the morning, but tapered off a little in the afternoon after a late lunch during the heat of the day and we called it an early afternoon and floated to camp.
Arriving at camp, we met Santi and Oscar who had set up tents, cots, and were preparing our dinner.

How about starting with empanadas?

And disco chicken was a favorite.

The wind was blowing that evening and we had seen smoke from a fire not far away. We were a little concerned as the wind was blowing in our direction, but Oscar was a former fire fighter and checked on the satellite phone to make sure we would be safe. I must say, it was certainly eerie that night!

Here we are enjoying the fire before bed.

And our power bank in case we needed a boost for our cell phones.

Here is Birdy with Gonzalo, the other guide on the trip.

And our camp mates.

I started day 2 quickly, landing this nice Rainbow with a willow worm.

And Dancingtrout wasn’t too far behind me!

Floating the Rio Alumine was wonderful.

Another nice Rainbow ate the Perdigon.

Halfway through our float, Santi and Oscar caught us with the gear raft.

Here is one of the hopper imitations Birdy had us use. The fish seemed to like it.

Another cookie-cutter Rainbow.

I always enjoy a relaxing streamside lunch spot.
And my last Rainbow from the Rio Alumine.

Enjoy…go fish!
Sounds like a great trip. I was on the Alumine just a few weeks before you, floating on my own for 7 days, the video is here if you want a bit of nostalgia!
