Odds and Ends

This week’s post is about the odds and ends that are happening as I look forward to the upcoming Spring fishing season.

I think I’m going through a little “free fall” this week. Ever hear the term? It’s what happens after you’ve been working at a high level for some time and then everything just ends, and your mind is trying to figure out what to do.

Sure, I’m getting out fishing a little, but I’m closing a couple of significant chapters – the 2016 NW Fly Tyer & Fly Fishing Expo and the Central Oregon Flyfisher’s (COF) Winter Fly Tying classes.

This is the first week in three months I won’t be leading the COF Winter Fly Tying classes. Seems a little odd I haven’t developed a couple of fly pattern sheets and sent them out to my tyers. We had a great year with a total of 13 classes, with an average of 28+ fly tyers in the room every night! Obviously, it’s very popular with our club members. I need to consolidate a few materials and get the boxes out to the living room and back to storage in the garage.

I’m reviewing my presentation about the Metolius River I’ll be giving to the Columbia Basin Fly Casters in the Tri-Cities, Washington next Tuesday (April 12, 2016). Be sure to stop by the Country Gentleman Restaurant Event Center if you’re in the area.

And I’m tying flies…just finished an order of three dozen Dougs Damsel Nymphs for a customer in Washington. Did you notice the “damsel debris” in the photo above?

Next up are Sparkle Duns and RiverKeeper Soft Hackle Cripples. I decided to tie a few extra for Dancing Trout and me…you can never have enough!

Lastly, on Saturday night, I received the Central Oregon Flyfisher of the Year for 2015. Very proud of that! In fact, it’s been a rewarding year so far…I received the Federator of the Year for the Oregon Council of the International Federation of Fly Fishers during the 2016 NW Fly Tyer & Fly Fishing Expo on March 12, 2016, along with a President’s Pin presented by Phil Greenlee, President/CEO of the Federation.

Well, that’s enough odds and ends for today. I better get back to the fly tying bench…I’ve got orders to fill.

Enjoy…go fish!

This week’s Throw Back Thursday Fly is the Ray Bergman Undertaker.
