Green Ant

This week’s Throw Back Thursday Fly is the Green Ant.

I was doing a little research to determine which flies to tie for a fly plate the Central Oregon Fly Tyer’s Guild is making for the 2016 NW Fly Tyer & Fly Fishing Expo. The plate’s theme is flies for the major steelhead rivers in Oregon. I ended up with the Snake River.

So I came upon this Green Ant in Trey Combs Steelhead Fly Fishing book published in 1991. I don’t think many fly fishers use flies for the Snake River, but the Grande Rhonde and Clearwater river in Idaho produces a lot to steelhead.

The Green Ant was developed by Mike Arhutick. It may have been patterned after the Rogue Red Ant, an original pattern by Mike Kennedy.

Be sure to check out the fly pattern sheet for the materials list.

Enjoy…go fish!
