Rosborough’s Silver Admiral

This week’s Throw Back Thursday Fly is Polly Rosborough’s Silver Admiral.

I’ve featured several flies from Polly, including the Casual Dress and Fledermouse. To find all his flies, simply use the search bar above and type in “Rosborough”.

The original materials called for pink yarn. I don’t seem to have any in my fly tying materials, so I substituted chenille instead. The wing calls for polar bear, which I used. It’s tied on a Mustad 36890 hook.

The link below to Mike Valla’s book The Founding Flies is where I found today’s fly. Valla dedicated a chapter to Polly Rosborough.

The Silver Admiral reminded me of a searun cutthroat fly I’ve tied before called the Siletz Special.

Ernest H. “Polly” Rosborough (1902 – 1997) lived in Chiloquin, Oregon and his home river was the Williamson River.

Polly tied a large variety of flies but is probably best known as an author of Tying and Fishing the Fuzzy Nymph (1965).

Enjoy…go fish!

This week’s Throw Back Thursday Fly is the Brown Turkey, another fly from the Ray Bergman collection. You can find the Turkey Brown…
