Here’s my first attempt at a classic Atlantic Salmon Fly – the Golden Butterfly (1810 version). I tie dozens and dozens of trout flies, but nothing like this. I’ve got some work to do!

Atherton No. 2 Dry Fly
This week’s Throw Back Thursday Fly is the Atherton No. 2 dry fly. I’ve highlighted a couple other Atherton flies recently, the Atherton No. 5 and Atherton No. 3. Bailey’s Dark Cahill
This week’s Throw Back Thursday Fly is Bailey’s Dark Cahill. Notice how this fly is tied with dun colored hackle and tail, a deviation of the standard brown that is usually used for both. This fly pictured above was from a collection of flies tied by Dan Bailey. I was fortunate to be able to…

Our friend Eric joined us. I was really looking forward to fishing DePuy Spring Creek. The creek is almost three…

Materials Hook: 1 Wings: Hackled with a feather from the inside of…
Ken Morrish Hopper
This week’s Throw Back Thursday Fly is the Ken Morrish Hopper. I recently listened to a podcast from Wet Fly Swing where Dave Stewart interviewed Ken Morrish. In the podcast, Ken talked about developing the fly in 2010. Knowing how deadly the fly imitates a grasshopper, I was astounded that Idylwilde Flies passed on the…
