Fern Variant

This week’s Throw Back Thursday Fly is the Fern Variant.

I found this fly in an antique fly wallet, which is part of my small collection. I’ve shared a few of them in posts titled Antique Fly Wallets and Antique Fly Wallets Revisited.

I opened this fly wallet up and picked a fly similar to Ray Bergman’s Fern wet fly.

If this fly wallet could talk…I wonder what the story would be.

You’ll find Fern fly on Plate No. 3, page 49.

Materials
Body:Pale Pink Floss – Gold Tip
Hackle:Brown
Wing:Light Slate

Ok, so perhaps there is a little to much variation to the original fly pattern. It’s probably called something else, but it stuck me when looking at the flies in each of the plates.

I think I’ll have to pull some materials out and tie my own!

Enjoy…go fish!
