Here is the fly pattern sheet for the Matts Fur nymph.

Materials

 

Hook:

Dai Riki 710,  #6 – 12

Thread:

Brown

Weight:

.020 lead wire

Tail:

Mallard dyed wood duck

Rib:

Oval gold tinsel

Body:

50-50 mixture of otter & cream seal

Wingcase:

Same as tail

Thorax:

Same as body

Hackle:

Left over tips of wingcase pulled back along sides & bottom of the fly. Legs should not extend beyond the point of hook.

Directions:

  1. Wrap 7 – 10 wraps of lead on the hook.
  2. Begin thread on hook and cover lead.
  3. Move thread to hook barb and tie in 5 – 7 fibers for tail.
  4. Attach ribbing at barb.
  5. Begin dubbing body, creating tapered body, about 2/3 of hook.
  6. Wind rib material forward using 5 wraps.
  7. Attach thorax.
  8. Dub a thick thorax.
  9. Pull wingcase forward and spread over top of thorax. Use remaining fibers as “hackle” legs, pulling them back along side of body. Length should be no longer than hook point.
  10. Whip finish.
