Materials

Hook:

Daiichi 1180/1190 or TMC 100, sizes 14 – 18

Thread:

8/0 Uni gray

Tail:

Coq de Leon fibers with Mayfly Brown Zelon over the top

Rib:

DNC embroidery floss – black

Body:

Goose biot – gray

Thorax:

Superfine dubbing – gray

Wing:

Sparkle dun deer hair

Hackle:

Dun

Directions

  1. Attach thread to hook behind hook eye and wind backwards to barb.
  2. Tie in Coq de Leon fibers with 4 – 5 wraps.
  3. Tie in rib.
  4. Tie in biot and wrap forward to 50% point and tie off. Trim butt ends.
  5. Wrap ribbing forward between wraps of biot and tie off.
  6. Tie in hackle.
  7. Add a small amount of dubbing. Be sure not to crowd remaining area for wing and hackle.
  8. Tie in deer hair wing with tips extend over hook eye. Cut rear section and leave small tuft.
  9. Place 3 wraps behind wing and lift wing material up and place 1 or 2 wraps in front. Tie off hackle and cut excess.
  10. Whip finish.
  11. Optional: trim hackle bottom even with hook point to allow low profile in water.
