Here is the fly pattern sheet for the Sheep Creek Special.

Materials

 

Hook:

Daiichi 1560, Dai Riki 060, TMC 3761 #6 – 14

Thread:

Black 6/0

Tail

Brown hackle

Body:

Peacock herl or dark olive chenille

Rib:

Fine gold or copper wire or tying thread (optional)

Wing:

Natural mallard flank

Directions:

  1. Start thread on hook immediately behind hook eye and advance to barb.
  2. Tie in a brown hackle and make 3 or 4 wraps. Tie off hackle.
  3. Tie in a couple of pieces of peacock herl and wrap around tying thread to provide more strength. Wind forward to create the body and tie off.
  4. Select a few fibers of natural mallard flank and tie in on top of hook.
  5. Create head with tying thread, whip finish, and trim thread.
