George Anderson’s Peeking Caddis

This week’s Throw Back Thursday Fly is George Anderson’s Peeking Caddis.

Peeking Caddis | www.johnkreft.com

This cased caddis fly pattern was developed in the 1970’s by George Anderson, owner of Yellowstone Angler in Livingston, MT. The fly imitates the Mother’s Day caddis (Brachycentrus) on the Yellowstone River (and other rivers as well).

The bright green banding imitates the body of the larva “peeking” out of its case.

The original was tied with a brown Partridge feather to imitate legs. Many flies tied today will be tied in the “beard” style where the Partridge is bunched together and tied on the bottom of the fly.

I stopped by the Yellowstone Angler back in 2016 when I travelled through the Paradise Valley.

Enjoy…go fish!

This week’s Throw Back Thursday Fly is the Rio Grande King, another fly from the Ray Bergman collection.
