Materials

 

Hook:

Dai Riki 710 or TMC 5263 # 6 – 8

Bead:

Black nickel – 4.0 mm

Weight:

.035″ lead-free wire, 10 – 15 wraps

Thread:

Black

Rib:

Amber vinyl rib, medium

Body:

Hareline Dubbin’ Orange dubbing

Wingcase:

Pearl Flashabou, 8 strands

Wing:

Brown grizzly hen

Legs:

Hungarian partridge, one turn

Antennae:

Natural pheasant tail fibers

Head:

Rusty orange Hareline Dubbin and Spirit River UV2 Caddis/Nymph black dubbing

Directions

  1. Crimp barb of hook and slide bead onto hook.
  2. Wrap 10 – 15 turns of lead and slide up to bead.
  3. Begin thread behind lead to help secure and keep from sliding. Place additional thread wraps over thread to bead and back to hook point.
  4. Attach V rib securely.
  5. Dub a thick body and cover hook to collar area.
  6. Wind rib forward with 5 or 6 wraps and secure.
  7. Attach 8 strands of Krystal Flash, extending over body. Trim about ½ body length.
  8. Tie in short wings on either side of body.
  9. Select and prepare one Hungarian Partridge feather and tie in. You’ll be able to get 1 or 2 turns of hackle. Tie off and trim excess.
  10. Select 2 pheasant tail fibers for antennae and tie in on top of body. Length should be to end of body.
  11. Dub collar and head.
  12. Whip finish and trim thread.
