I love to fish in the fall and every other season for that matter. But during the fall, there are so many choices of where to fish. Yesterday, I was fishing my favorite river. Today? We decided it was time to try fishing East Lake in the fall.
We fished East Lake several times this year, but this is the latest I’ve ever fished it. What surprised me the most was the Callibaetis mayflies were still hatching and the fish were rising to them!
To say the least, I was amazed. I thought this hatch would have been finished. Just goes to show you I still have a few things to learn.
My wife and I were able to land over a dozen of these nice rainbows on dry flies.
We arrived at the lake and started casting to rising fish. There was a combination of spinners on the water and a few duns here and there hatching. It was constant almost all day long.
And even when the hatch ended, we were still able to coax a few more fish to the fly.
I think we’ll give it a try again today!

Thanks for your comment. East Lake has several varieties of rainbow trout in it…Blackwater, Eagle Lake, and now some Crane/bows. Perhaps one of these strains has some cutthroat in it. I checked one of the fish I caught the other day and there was a slight coloring under the chin.
