Hello John,
I ran into you yesterday at the “Dolly hole”. I recognized you and your wife from following your website.. like I said it was good to hear that your wife is well enough to recover and do what you both love to do which is flyfishing the Metolius.
I have the same passion for the fishing and the beauty of the Metolius. What you mentioned, love to watch the trout come up and eat your fly on the surface. ME TOO! Love the challenge and the puzzle. I am learning something small on every session, I think.. ugh
My wife and kids and I have been going to the Metolius since 1985 and mainly fished on the upper river when they were stalking trout in the earlier days. It’s only been the last couple years that I’ve spent time on the middle part of the river much larger fish are available and had some great times when the trout are willing. Yesterday was a tough one watching the rising fish at the bottom of the run change flies 1 million times just didn’t happen for me, but that’s OK. I enjoyed the day. By the way I did fish in close before I waded in, as larger trout were enticing…also Should have left the “Island trout” alone
Just wanna thank you for your great work on your website as you don’t want anything back other than to give your knowledge and help others so cool.
I have tied up some size 16 PMD River keeper cripples. I just so happen to have a mallard wing in my desk and boy are those feathers delicate, but I’m getting better at it.
Take care
I’ve listened to both pod cast you and your wife did for the destination angler. Heading to Shenandoah National park to backpack, camp, and flyfish the mountain streams. Tied up some soft hackle cripples in March Brown colors a la your tying video. Looking forward to fishing them. Have a good one!
Due to the wonderful randomness of the internet and search engines I went looking for Labranche’s ‘Pink Lady’ and somehow ended up here from the thousands of possible links to choose from. You have done a wonderful thing for fly fishing by posting the links to many very rare British fly fishing books by the likes of Halford, Edmonds and Lee, Kelson, Theakston and on and on. There are some titles that should be there like Skues for example but I am guessing they have not been digitized.
The sport began even before Dame Juliana Berners [there is a controversial figure in the history of game] and will be going on long after I have checked out. All things considered I have enjoyed a richer life from this sport of fly fishing, it’s history and it’s literature.
Hi. I’ve been on your website and been looking at the Flick’s March Brown dry fly. Would it be possible for you to order some of them please how much is ten, size 10. Please
