More Flies From the Vise

I thought I’d share a few more flies from the vise this week. I finished another fly order for a customer planning to fish the upcoming Salmonfly and Golden Stone hatch. They’ll begin showing themselves in late April and early May. In addition, you’ll find a link below to my recent YouTube videos.

This pile of flies include some Chubby Chernobyl in purple and Golden Stone and Clark’s Lady Stone to imitate Salmonflies and Golden Stones.

The image below is of a beautiful Metolius River Rainbow Trout taken on the Floating Nymph I highlighted on a recent Throw Back Thursday post.

I decided to tie up a few BWO imitations in sizes 16 & 18 and see how they worked. This fish rose to a size 18 Improved Sparkle Dun, but didn’t hook up. I tried my RiverKeeper Soft Hackle Cripple with no success. The third fly was the charm and as this Rainbow rose to my fly, a smile slowly came to my face.

Here are a couple of new videos I published recently on my RiverKeeper Flies YouTube channel. The first one is a Chubby Chernobyl – Purple fly.

And the Norm Wood Special,

I’m sure you’ll see some more flies in the near future. I have several customers in line waiting for their flies.

Enjoy…go fish!

This week’s Throw Back Thursday Fly is the Water Boatman TBT. Peter Bowers from the Patient Angler in Bend taught this fly during a Central Oregon Flyfisher’s Winter Fly Tying class a couple of years ago. He said the Water Boatman was a fly tied for Lake in the Dunes many years ago. I wish…

This week’s Throw Back Thursday Fly is the LaFontaine Emergent Pupa. Anyone see any continuity from last week? Just checking… The LaFontaine Emergent Pupa is the final phase of a caddis as it climbs out of its pupal shuck and makes its way to the surface to finally fly away from the water. The earlier stage…
